Why is my cat called a Polydactyl, and how did it get this way ??
Being a Polydactyl simply means that your cat has more toes on one foot, (or all feet) than the average. It is actually a dominant gene that carries the Polydactyl trait, so at least one of the parents carried this gene. Even if not all of the kittens are born with this trait, they still have this gene, and will probably have Polydactyl offspring.

This gene should not cause any harm, healthwise, to your cat, unless it developes problems walking. (Due to the increased amount of toes) There is no reason to remove these extra digits.

Did you know ????
1. Some believe that a Polydatyl cat brings good luck ??

2. Ernest Hemmingway was given a six- toed cat, and some of the cats who remain on the grounds today, are direct descendants of the original one ??

3. The abbreviation for American Polydactyl is APD ??

If you have some "Did you know ?", Poly facts, please email them to me, and I will put them on my site !!

It is open registration right now for American Polydactyls !! Even if only one parent is a registered Polydactyl, ALL of the offspring shall be registered as American Polydactyls. Each cat registered, will have a specific code as to whether they have long hair, short hair, normal or shortened tails, and whether or not they are polydactyls. Email me with any questions !!
